Thanks to last years removal of the broadcast/newspaper cross-ownership ban, Seaton Publishing’s Grand Junction Media Inc. will acquire Red Rocks Radio’s cluster in Grand Junction CO. The owners of the Grand Junction Sentinel will add Oldies “Red Rock 101.5” KGJX Fruita and its three HD fed translators: Hot AC “Kiss 94.3” K232FB, Spanish Adult Hits “Juan 104.7” K284AP, and Country “Canyon Country 107.3” K297BR Grand Junction. Deanna Regalado is moving from morning co-host at iHeartMedia CHR “95.7 The Party” KPTT Denver to middays. Regalado joined KPTT in 2015 from KVUU to form the “JJ & Deanna Morning Show” with JJ Kincaid. JJ remains in mornings, while she takes the midday slot previously held by Angela Cortez, who recently moved to APD/MD at Urban “Real 103.9” K280DD Las Vegas. Two weeks after flipping CHR “Power 93.3” KPWK Seattle back to Rhythmic CHR KUBE, iHeartMedia has reversed course on its plans to keep the Carla Marie & Anthony morning show on the station. The duo will instead move to sister “106.1 Kiss-FM” KBKS Tacoma for nights starting Monday, May 21. The show will air from 6-10pm replacing the voicetracked EJ on KBKS. Carla Maria and Anthony came to Seattle from the syndicated Elvis Duran Show in January 2016 when KUBE became KPWK. Before there was “Hot Country” or “New Country,” there was the Country battle in Houston. Through the ‘80s and early ‘90s, KILT-FM (FM100) under consultant Ed Shane and rival KIKK-FM were mainstream musically (at least as I now remember them), but had an extra level of presentational gloss and energy that made them the brightest sounding stations of their era, until rival KKBQ (93Q Country) and some of the Citadel stations went further in the mid-‘90s. In the last two translator windows, I handled applications for more than a dozen clients, and it seemed like I heard from all of them (and most of their lawyers) on Thursday after the news broke about the Prometheus informal objection that was filed against roughly a thousand pending translator applications nationwide. Whether or not it was done on purpose, the objection’s timing couldn’t have been worse. The two-week waiting period for petitions to deny against the first of the Auction 100 applicants just ran out last week, which means the Audio Division had just started to issue construction permits...
